The USS Alabama battleship is a representative of a very small group of ships of this class, which after the World War II ended more than half a century ago and later transformed into a museum unit, was able to survive to this day. Decorated for participation in the war with a total of nine honorary "Battle Stars" awards, he was one of the fairly successful - widely regarded as the best, designed according to the Washington Treaty limits - South Dakota type of battleships characterized by good armor, underwater protection, propulsion, compact construction and a powerful weapon. The battleship was built at the Norfolk Navy Yard in Portsmouth, Virginia. The keel was laid on February 1, 1940, launched on February 16, 1942, and the godmother was the wife of Senator J. Lister Hill - a well-known and well-deserved politician from the state of Alabama. Polish-English text
